"Nearly half of Americans have a family member or close friend who's been addicted to drugs

I knew drug addiction issues were becoming more prevalent - how could I not notice with all the press about the opioid epidemic? Nonetheless, I was stunned to read the statistics recently published by the Pew Research Center in this article.

In my daily work with people in recovery, it is an unusual situation for someone to tell me that there is no one in their family with an addiction. Generational addiction issues - and the family dysfunction that goes with it - is nearly the norm. This problem is not limited to the so-called "undesirables" of society.
